WHAT IS TOOTH DECAY?
Tooth decay describes the condition where in the tooth, under
a variety of harsh conditions, breaks down leading to the
formation of a cavity.
It starts with a hole/opening on the tooth surface and of not
treated, it reaches the deeper sections if the tooth, where
the pulp and nerves are causing the tooth to become sensitive
to a variety of stimuli, a variety of gum problems such as
inflammation and swelling pain and ultimately tooth loss.

DOES TOOTH DECAY OCCURS?
Tooth decay is a common dental ailment that may occur at any
time or age. Even small children can have decayed milk teeth
which should be treated as permanent teeth erupts at a later
age.

CAUSES OF TOOTH DECAY
1.POOR ORAL HYGIENE - Irregular and improper brushing
not rinsing with water or mouthwash after meals and not
flossing between teeth.
2.Unregulated diet - Periodic snacking on aerated
drinks, Jams, Cakes, Pastries, even Potato Chips, Chocolates,
Toffees can lead to tooth decay.
3.Bad or worn out dental filings

1)Visit your dental every 6 months for a regular check up and
to know if there is any cavity or tooth decay.
2)Filings - Diff 1st types of dental fillings can be done like
1) Cosmetic Filling or tooth coloured filling
2) Silver fillings

WHAT IS ROOT CANAL
TREATMENT?
If decay is very deep and pulp is involved then a Root canal
treatment (RCT) should be done.
This treatment involves removal of degenerated pulp & nerves
under local anesthesia render it free of infection, doing a
root filling & later giving a amalgam or tooth coloured
filling.

GUM DISEASES
WHAT
IS GUM DISEASE OR PERIODONTAL DISEASE?
A disease, which affects the gums and other supporting
structures of teeth, is periodontal disease. It is commonly
known as gum disease. Early stage is called Gingivitis.
Advanced stage is Periodontitis when it affects bone and other
supporting structures.

EARLY SIGNS OF GUM DISEASE?
Gingivitis - Bleeding, red, swollen or tender gums.
Periodontitis - Pus between teeth and gums, Loose or
shifting teeth, Gums separated from teeth, Bad breath or bad
taste.

Gum disease starts with plaque.

What is Plaque?
Plaque is a soft, sticky, colourless, film of bacteria, which
forms on teeth and can be brushed off easily. If not removed,
it hardens and form hard layer called tartar or calculus.

What happens
if this is not treated?
It can cause inflammation (Gingivitis)- Which forms pockets
i.e. space between teeth and gums- destroy underlying bone (Periodontitis)-
teeth become loose-fall eventually.

-Brushing and flossing twice a day after meals.
-A balanced diet rich in dietary fibers, fresh fruits,
